Is NCC Planning to Increase Call Tariff Again?

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
has commenced the process of reviewing the subsisting interconnection rates for
voice services to bring it in tandem with current market realities.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the commission,
Prof. Umar Danbatta, said the review had become necessary considering that the
Nigerian communications market has witnessed tremendous growth in both
subscriber numbers and traffic volumes.
The scale of changes will inevitably
affect the unit cost of providing services including interconnection and may
lead to differences between regulated interconnection rates and underlying
costs which in turn may result in differences between on-net and off-net retail
tariffs.

Whatever the above grammar means, NCC is
planning to increase call tariff or what better explanation can be given to the
above?

  1. They are not planning to increase tariff. Tariff presently has gone up. My present mtn package (pulse) use to be quite cheap. But presently it's almost worst than other tariffs.

  2. What kind of review are we talking about here? Since the price of everything practically goes up in NG everyday. The baygon I once bought for 500 is now N1050. I really wish the review we are talking about here is the downward review.
