This is why sooner or later, WhatsApp Pay will be available Globally even though its currently available only in India and Nigerian banks are not in support of it.

Banks are now beginning to utilize WhatsApp instant messaging app to their advantage. UBA, GTbank and First bank announce the introduction of whatsApp messaging on their digital banking.

Customers will be able to perform basic banking services such as opening of account, check account balances on the go and carry out basic banking services.

UBA, in a statement, said its chat banker, Leo, was launched in a pilot mode on WhatsApp and will be fully available to customers by September 1, 2018.

GTBank said it would leverage on the WhatsApp Business Solution to offer Nigerians an additional channel to connect with it for enquiries, service requests and access to other basic banking services.

While First Bank of Nigeria said its WhatsApp chat banking will ensure effective services to the customers. The will enable customers to leverage the real-time messaging capabilities of the WhatsApp Business Solution to check their account balance.

On the other hand, WhatsApp has announced that it will start charging businesses on its platform 0.5 cents to 9 cents per message (about N30 to N35 in local currency) for sending marketing and customer service messages in a bid to generate revenue.

  1. From the end user’s perspective i think it’s a good move. But from the merchant’s perspective, I’m sure they would have made sure it’s inline with their business model, they can always negotiate and re-negotiate with what’sapp..

  2. It is an ok move, they very well know that technology trend can’t be stopped so the best thing is to leverage it to their advantage.

    WhatsApp Banking will be amazing as well

  4. It’s a nice and welcome development…looking it from another angle it may be risk to us. I’m very comfortable using those banks app very easy to use

  5. the banks having a whatsapp platform is a good move. but whatsapp deciding to charge businesses per message is a bit odd
